FirstRand is hosting this crucial industry event on September 29th; it promises to make a valuable contribution to the growing community of DevOps practitioners in South Africa.
The concept of a regular DevOps Africa conference was conceived by Josef Langerman of Standard Bank in order to create a platform for the local DevOps community. Standard Bank and Barclays have previously hosted the events and this year on Thursday 29th September FirstRand will make its contribution. Through these conferences the banking industry inspires and builds a thriving DevOps culture and aims to grow local, sustainable skills to help run IT ops even better. [paragraph 1 of 5]
I spoke at the Barclays event last year and showcased the FNB Codefest events in 2015 which included prototypes and teams that made progress on various DevOps domains. A number of DevOps principles were also showcased on the day that highlight how lean management practices are being applied to technology with the intention of improving IT performance. Agile improves software development and its cousin DevOps improves the way IT Leadership runs and maintains that software once it has been productionised. [2/5]
The theme for the FirstRand edition of Africa DevOps day in September is “DevOps Skills for the Future – The Next Generation”. Previous events have highlighted DevOps success stories and attendees have had opportunities to share their journeys with each other. We believe the time is right to focus on the next generation of DevOps experts within the industry and ensure the movement can make the leap from early adopters to early majority (as per the Diffusion of Innovation curve). We are encouraging talks and presentations about skills development case studies, lessons learned, various successes and whatever is needed to ensure the growth and long term future success of DevOps in South Africa. Thought leaders locally and internationally will be invited to contribute and participate; if you would like to get involved or need more information please email email@example.com. Africa DevOps day was conceived in the banking industry but we welcome all industries to get involved; we are passionate about learning from any environment that has something to offer. [4/5]
According to puppet labs’ 2015 State of DevOps report, “organizational investment in DevOps is strongly correlated with organizational culture; the ability of development, operations, and infosec teams to achieve win-win outcomes”. High performing IT organisations have 60x less failures, recover 168x faster, deploy 30x more frequently and have 200x shorter lead times! If you would like to aim for those levels and find out how to invest in your DevOps future, join us on 29th September 2016 at FirstRand’s Africa DevOps Day. [5/5]
